The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) has announced the candidates for the General Local Election, with some elected by acclamation.
A General Local Election is held every four years so that voters can choose the people who will represent them in local government. In the RDEK, this includes electing Electoral Area Directors.
On general voting day, eligible voters cast their ballots in favour of a candidate to represent their area.
Elections will be held for the following Electoral Areas:
Electoral Area E candidates:
Nowell Berg – Wasa.
Penny Flegel – Wasa.
Electoral Area F candidates:
Susan Clovechok – Fairmont Hot Springs.
Quentin Randall – Windermere.
The 2026 General Local Election for area director will be held on October 17, with Advance Voting Opportunities held on October 7 & 13.
In addition, the RDEK will be running the General School Election for School District No. 5 – Trustee Electoral Area 4 (RDEK Electoral Area B); and School District No. 6 – Trustee Electoral Area 4 (RDEK Electoral Area F and Village of Canal Flats) this year.
School District No. 5 – Trustee Electoral Area 4 (RDEK Electoral Area B) candidates:
Alysha Clarke – Baynes Lake.
Randy Reay – Jaffray.
School District No. 6 – Trustee Electoral Area 4 (RDEK Electoral Area F and Village of Canal Flats) candidates:
Amber Byklum – Canal Flats.
David Dunlop – Windermere.
Cory Stanbury – Fairmont Hot Springs.
The General School Election will be held on October 17, with Advance Voting opportunities held on October 7, 13, and 15.
