Murphy Creek Wildfire grows to four hectares

The latest update from BC Wildfire Service shows that the Murphy Creek Wildfire grew to four hectares.

The fire is located northwest of St. Mary Lake and was discovered yesterday (August 27).

Fire behaviour has been observed as mainly rank one and two, which means a smouldering to low-vigour surface fire with a slow rate of spread.

Helicopters and airtankers are supporting the work of ground crews by bucketing and dropping retardant to limit fire behaviour.

Limited downslope growth has been observed, and retardant lines have been established above and below the fire to limit further spread.
