The Murphy Creek Wildfire, northwest of St. Mary Lake is currently two hectares in size.
BC Wildfire Service says the suspected cause is lightning, and fire behaviour is currently observed as mainly rank 1 and 2, which means a smouldering to low vigour surface fire with a slow rate of spread.
Helicopters and airtankers are supporting the work of ground crews, by bucketing and dropping retardant to limit fire behaviour.
Limited downslope growth has been observed, and retardant lines have been established above and below the fire to limit further spread.
