The City of Fernie manages and maintains St. Margaret’s Cemetery, a meaningful place of remembrance and an important part of our community’s history. As volunteer interest grows, the City asks everyone to carry out any work with care and respect.
Please keep the following in mind:
- The City is responsible for overall maintenance and operation of the cemetery grounds, including common areas, trees, and roads.
- Plot holders and families are responsible for grave markers and their upkeep.
- Heavy equipment or machinery should not be used for volunteer activities within the cemetery. The cemetery contains historic monuments, grave sites, and sensitive ground conditions that heavy equipment can damage.
- Many gravesites, monuments, and memorials remain important to families and loved ones, and any work on individual sites should be undertaken with the appropriate permission.
Together, we can help ensure St. Margaret’s Cemetery remains a respectful place of remembrance for current and future generations.
