Due to the City’s current Stage 2 Outdoor Water Use Restrictions, the City of Cranbrook is reducing the hours of operations for both City splash pads.
The Kinsmen Spray Park and Rotary Park Spray Park will only be operational for 6 hours per day between 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Both parks will also only operate if the outside temperature exceeds 20°C.
BC is home to about 25 per cent of Canada’s fresh flowing water, but nearly a quarter of the province’s surface water is already at, or close to, its reliable supply limit.
During warmer months, household water use can jump by as much as 60 per cent, largely due to outdoor watering and lawn irrigation.
Lower water use helps reduce treatment and pumping costs, minimizes wear on our equipment, and eases the load on our wastewater system.
The current Stage 2 Outdoor Water Use Restrictions include:
Residents may only water two days per week. Even numbered addresses may only water on Monday or Thursday, and odd numbered addresses many only water Tuesday and Friday.
You can water between the hours of 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. or 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. – not both – to a maximum of two hours.
Watering of vegetable gardens may continue as long as you water using a handheld shut-off nozzle on your hose.
Use of water outdoors to wash windows, driveways, sidewalks or building surfaces including windows is no longer allowed under Stage 2 restrictions.
Staff will also begin reducing outdoor water use in priority two and three greenspaces around the City including most parks and playgrounds, Lions Park, the Kinsmen Greenbelt, and the cemetery.
Irrigation levels will be maintained for now in Rotary Park, Moir Park, the Kinsmen Quads and Confederation ball parks, and the boulevard along Highway 3/95.
