The Town of Creston is receiving a cash injection from the federal government to support risk preparedness amid growing climate change pressures.
Julie Dabrusin, environment and climate change minister, has announced funding for a total of 141 new climate resilience projects across Canada.
The investment includes $50,564 towards an adaptation strategy in Creston.
“Canada’s climate is changing. Our government is investing to make these communities more resilient, so that people are protected from flooding, extreme heat and other risks,” said Dabrusin.
“Building that resilience now is how we keep Canadians safe and keep life affordable for the long term.”
Nearly $234,000 is also being invested towards projects in Nelson, Rossland and the Regional District of Central Kootenay.
Over 120 communities will receive a total of $34.2 million in climate resilience measures, which could save up to $513 million in the long term, according to estimates by the Canadian Climate Institute.
