UPDATE: The Regional District of East Kootenay has EXPANDED the Evacuation Order to include the Ta Ta Creek, Wasa Lake and Lazy Lake area due to the Wait Creek (N11360) Wildfire. This wildfire is a risk to life and safety. People in the impacted area must leave NOW.

People within the Order Boundary in the Ta Ta Creek area must leave immediately & go to the Emergency Support Services (ESS) Reception Centre at Parkland Middle School in Cranbrook (1115 2nd Avenue South).

Campers who need a place to park for the night can park at Western Financial Place and Moir Park parking lots.

Crews are responding to four new fires in the region with an Evacuation Order in effect for the Ta Ta Creek area.

A fire is currently active near the Ta Ta Creek area and is estimated at 160 hectares.

Highway 95A in Kimberley around the fire and Highway 93 Fort Steele to Wasa are closed. 

Firefighters, helicopters and skimmers are working together in response to this wildfire to limit spread.

Fire behaviour is being driven by strong southerly winds, this fire is burning at rank 4, which is a highly vigorous surface fire with torching or passive crown fire.

This is characterized by grey to black smoke and a moderate to fast rate of spread.

There are 38 firefighting personnel responding to this wildfire.

Emergency Support Services (ESS) is available at Parkland Middle School in Cranbrook located at 1115 2 Ave S, Cranbrook, BC. Look for signage.
