As the weather gets nicer, more people are out riding bikes, e-bikes, and other small electric vehicles.
Cranbrook RCMP and the City of Cranbrook are encouraging riders to know the rules before riding.
Not all vehicles are treated the same under the Motor Vehicle Act.
Before you ride, take a moment to know the rules: where you can ride, age limits, speed limits, and whether licensing or insurance is required.
E-bikes can ride anywhere bicycles can ride.
To ride a light e-bike, you must be at least 14-years-old.
You are required to be at least 16-years-old to ride a standard e-bike.
Light e-bikes can ride up to 25km per hour, while standard e-bikes can go up to 32km per hour.
Some vehicles that look similar are not legal on public roads, sidewalks, or bike lanes.
Ride smart, ride safe, ride legal.
And no matter what you ride, don’t forget your helmet!
