Fernie City Council has awarded the contract for the Fairy Creek UV System project.
The project covers advanced primary disinfection of the community’s primary water source.
Filtrum Inc. received the contract for $2,043,597.51, excluding GST.
In the City Council meeting this week, Filtrum Inc. was allocated the contract for $2,043,597.51, excluding GST.
The city authorized an increase in the budget by $990,000.
As part of provincial drinking water treatment objectives, the City of Fernie is required to provide two methods of disinfection at the Fairy Creek source.
Currently, it’s only disinfected with chlorine.
Construction is anticipated to span several months, with electrical and building mechanical improvements to occur from September to November.
Installation of the UV reactor system is scheduled for March and April 2027, as UV reactor ordering has long wait times.
