The City of Cranbrook is laying the groundwork for a number of road projects starting this week.
“Traffic delays are expected to remain for most of the day,” said the City. “Drivers are encouraged to please detour around these areas if at all possible.”
At 9 a.m. Friday, May 22, crews are set to begin paint removal and survey layout work to realign lanes on 14th Avenue South, as well as at the intersections of Baker Street and 10th Avenue South and Theatre Road and Ridgeview Road.
Work to extend bike lanes on 14th Avenue is underway this spring, beginning with line painting from Baker Street to 2nd Street South.
Changes include removing the right-turn-only lane and extending the no-parking areas to help improve sightlines and manage “growing traffic volumes”, says the City.

The Baker Street and 10th Avenue intersection has been confirmed to remain a permanent four-way stop, and the new design will feature one lane on each approach, with the dedicated left- and right-turn lanes to be removed.
Lastly, crews will also be removing a yellow centre line and adding a left-turn lane on Theatre Road to improve access to Ridgeview Road by the Kal-Tire.
All the new lines are expected to be complete by Friday evening.
Crosswalks and other key markings are due early next week.
