BC Mounties have charged three people in connection with the murder of a 51‑year‑old man found in Castlegar four years ago.
On August 11, 2022, Jean‑Luc Noel Levesque was found unresponsive near the 1800 block of Columbia Avenue in Castlegar. Police say he was not a known resident of the community and was believed to have travelled to Castlegar prior to his death and it is believed to have been a targeted incident.
The BC RCMP E‑Division Major Crime Section took over the investigation and worked in partnership with the Castlegar RCMP throughout the nearly four‑year investigation.
On Friday, April 24, 2026, BC RCMP Major Crime Section investigators, with assistance from the Vancouver Police Department, Castlegar RCMP officers, and Nelson RCMP, arrested three men without incident.
The BC Prosecution Service approved a charge of second-degree murder against one of the suspects, while the other two were each charged with manslaughter.
“This investigation was of significant interest to the residents of Castlegar, and we recognize the impact it has had on the victim’s family, friends, and the broader community,” said Sergeant Monty Taylor, Detachment Commander of the Castlegar RCMP, in a press release. “We appreciate the community’s patience throughout the investigation.”
“The BC RCMP Major Crime program committed significant resources to this investigation to enhance public safety in the region,” added Superintendent Sanjaya Wijayakoon of the BC RCMP E‑Division Major Crime Section.
As the matter is now before the courts, RCMP say no further information will be released.
