The Canadian Rockies International Airport (YXC) in Cranbrook is reporting increased passengers and new investments aimed at improving service and regional connectivity.
The airport says passenger numbers continued to rise through the first quarter of 2026, including the busiest March on record, with around 16,000 travellers passing through the terminal.
Officials say the increase reflects growing demand for air travel, increased seat capacity, and continued tourism and business travel.
With the growth, the airport says upgrades are in the works to improve the passenger experience, including an expanded hold room and new washroom facilities.
Parking areas are also being expanded and repaved to improve access and increase capacity for travellers and visitors.
“It is a privilege to be part of the continued success of YXC. Aviation is a turbulent industry to work in, never more so that over these past few years, and I’m thrilled that the continued loyalty and utilization of this key asset has enabled us to smooth out the bumps and continue realizing our potential for the region,” said Tristen Chernove, airport manager.
The airport also reports continued private-sector investment, including the sale of a former hangar to Decosse Customs and the construction of a new hangar by Streamline Airways to support aircraft storage, maintenance and operations.
Officials say the developments reinforce the airport’s role as a regional transportation hub and economic driver.
