With e-scooter season in full swing across Cranbrook, the city is reminding riders and the public to follow safety rules as part of its partnership with Bird Canada.
According to the city the rules are as following:
- Ride e-scooters only in bike lanes or on roads; sidewalks are not permitted at any time
- Wear a helmet at all times while riding
- One rider per scooter only; no passengers
- Obey all traffic laws, signs, and traffic control devices
- On roads with speed limits of 50 km/h or less, use a designated bike lane if available or stay as far right as possible
- On roads above 50 km/h, scooters are only permitted in designated bike lanes
- Use caution around pedestrians, vehicles, and changing surface conditions
- E-scooters are allowed in most areas of Cranbrook, but no-ride zones apply around hospitals, highways, city parks, and golf courses
- When using multi-use pathways or active transportation corridors, alert pedestrians and other users when passing using a bell or horn
Concerns about the program or unsafe use can be reported to Bird Canada at 311_cranbrook@birdcanada.co or through the Bird app’s community feature.
