Elk Valley Resources (EVR) says it is donating $250,000 to support a new centre for children with complex health needs at BC Children’s Hospital.
The company says the donation will go toward the centre for health complexity, a first-of-its-kind facility aimed at improving care for youth living with multiple medical conditions across the province and the Yukon.
EVR adds that children with complex health needs often require round-the-clock care and rely on advanced medical technology, while families must navigate multiple areas of specialized treatment and support services.
The new centre is designed to address gaps in care by offering coordinated services, including clinical programs, family supports and 16 overnight rooms for short stays during transitions.
“Children with complex health needs — and the families who care for them — face extraordinary challenges,” said EVR CEO Mike Carrucan in a statement.
“We’re proud to invest in the centre for health complexity and the dedicated teams behind it.”
BC Children’s Hospital Foundation says donations from corporate partners will help ensure the centre includes advanced technology and a family-centred design.
The facility is scheduled to open in 2028.
