The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) is putting fire safety first at its third annual Ember Stomp event this spring.
“All residents in the area are invited to take part in Ember Stomp to learn what they can do to help themselves, their neighbours, and their communities be prepared in case of wildfire,” says RDEK Emergency & Disaster Mitigation Coordinator, Sloane More.
“Bring the kids to check out the wildland firefighting apparatus, play games, meet Ember the FireSmart Fox, and learn more about wildfire preparedness.”
The Wildfire Community Preparedness Day event will feature concessions and several activities, including an educational presentation at 1 p.m. and a live-fire demonstration from the Elk Valley and South County Rural Fire and Rescue Service at 2 p.m.
The FireSmart event is set to be held at the Jaffray Community Hall on May 1, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
“We’re grateful to all of our participating partners for generously contributing their time and resources to help ensure residents have the chance to learn practical steps to protect themselves and their properties,” added More.
More details about the Ember Stomp and other FireSmart events can be found through the RDEK’s engagement portal.
