Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a localized flooding statement for Creston and Kootenay Lake.
Forecasters say rain combined with elevated freezing levels may result in localized flooding from Tuesday (Mar. 17) evening through Wednesday (Mar. 18) afternoon.
The mix of snowmelt and rainfall could lead to flooding in valleys and other low-lying areas.
ECCC adds that an atmospheric river is expected to bring moderate rain and elevated freezing levels to the region.
Rainfall, combined with freezing levels of 2,000-2,500 metres, will fall on recent snow and contribute to additional mountain snowmelt.
Conditions are expected to ease on Wednesday (Mar. 18) afternoon; however, more significant rainfall is forecast to return beginning Thursday (Mar. 19) afternoon and continue into early Saturday (Mar. 21).
