The City of Kimberley has reached two milestones in its new Wastewater Treatment Plant project, clearing the way for construction to proceed.
According to the city, it has received registration under British Columbia’s Municipal Wastewater Regulation, which approves the facility under provincial standards.
The registration confirms the province has reviewed and accepted the system’s design, environmental protections and operational plans.
It will replace the city’s previous operating permit and allow the facility to be built and operated.
With the regulatory approval in place, the city has also secured final funding for the project following updates to the design and site plan.
The city says a building permit application has been submitted, with approval expected in late March.
Construction is scheduled to begin in April 2026, and the treatment plant is projected to be fully operational in 2028.
