The City of Cranbrook is reminding residents of upcoming increases to parking meter and stall rates, set to take effect on May 1, 2026.
The changes follow updates to the Streets, Traffic and Parking bylaw, adopted by council in November 2025, based on recommendations from the Downtown Parking Plan and Strategy completed earlier in 2025, the city says.
Under the new rates:
Parking meters
-
15 minutes – $0.25
-
30 minutes – $0.50
-
60 minutes – $1.00
-
120 minutes – $2.00
Leased parking stalls
-
$50 per month (up from $35)
Paid parking hours are set to remain 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Saturday.
The city says the increases aim to keep downtown rates competitive, boost funding for the Downtown Parking Reserve Fund, reduce reliance on general tax dollars, and encourage alternative transportation.
Planned improvements include paving, lighting, landscaping, signage, and other downtown revitalization projects.
City officials caution that as meters are updated, there may be a short period when some still display old rates while others show the new ones.
Longer-term modernization plans may include digital and mobile payment options.
