Elk Valley RCMP say a 56-year-old woman from Cranbrook has died following a collision on Highway 3 near Fernie.
RCMP said the incident occurred Saturday (Feb. 14) at about 8:55 a.m. in the 2100 block of the highway.
Officers attended the scene alongside Fernie Fire Rescue and BC Ambulance.
According to RCMP, the vehicles were travelling in opposite directions when one lost control on the slushy highway.
Multiple individuals were taken to Elk Valley Hospital in Fernie.
Police say witness information indicated that speed or driver error did not appear to be a factor.
RCMP initially completed their investigation, and the vehicles were removed, and the highway reopened an hour later.
Shortly after the reopening, Elk Valley Hospital contacted RCMP to report that the passenger in one vehicle had passed away due to injuries sustained in the crash.
Elk Valley RCMP say they offer condolences to the family of the deceased.
The investigation is ongoing.
