The Creston Valley Fire Service (CVFS) was dispatched on Wednesday (Feb. 11) morning at approximately 9:53 a.m. to the area of Selkirk Drive and Hawkview Drive following a report of a strong natural gas odour.
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed the strong smell and requested assistance from FortisBC.
Further investigation revealed that the odour originated from compost piles being turned by heavy equipment nearby.
According to CVFS, the smell was intensified by the wind direction and a temperature inversion in the area.
FortisBC and CVFS confirmed there was no gas leak.
