Cranbrook city councillor Lynette Wray has announced she will seek the mayor’s seat in the 2026 municipal election, saying she wants to continue serving the community in a leadership role.
Wray has been a member of Cranbrook city council for the past three years.
In a statement announcing her candidacy, she said her decision followed careful consideration and encouragement from family, friends and community members.
She pointed to more than 10 years of credit union governance experience and 30 years of work with non-profit organizations as key experience she would bring to the role.
During her time on council, Wray said she has focused on improving governance and operations, supporting collaboration, and working toward practical solutions that benefit the community.
Wray said Cranbrook, like many communities across the country, is facing significant challenges.
She cited the rising cost of replacing aging infrastructure, the need for housing, economic pressures affecting local businesses, and the ongoing mental health and addictions crisis.
At the same time, she emphasized the city’s strengths, including its dedicated business community, a strong non-profit sector, Cranbrook’s role as a regional hub for education, health care and government services, and the natural beauty of the surrounding area.
Wray said she cares deeply about the city’s long-term success and sustainability.
Over the coming months, she said she plans to connect with residents to discuss community priorities and how Cranbrook can work together.
Wray concluded by expressing her gratitude to Mayor Wayne Price, fellow councillors and city staff.
The municipal election will take place in the fall of 2026.
