The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) board of directors has requested a report outlining options to modernize the rural transfer station system.
The RDEK says no decisions have been made at this point.
However, the RDEK will be seeking feedback from residents on how rural transfer stations are used and which services are important to users.
The project aims to support key goals in the Solid Waste Management Plan, including encouraging waste diversion, reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill and identifying opportunities to improve recycling services.
“Our rural transfer station system has remained largely unchanged since it was first established over 20 years ago,” said Jamie Davies, general manager of operations.
“Starting this project will give us an opportunity to look at all aspects of the system and optimize the transfer stations to better suit our residents.”
A public survey is set to launch Jan. 13, and a project page will be hosted at engage.rdek.bc.ca/RuralTransferStations.
The RDEK encourages all residents and users of rural transfer stations to take part in the project and stay informed by following along online.
