Cranbrook residents turned out by donating nearly a literal ton of food at this year’s holiday train.
The CPKC Holiday Train tour stopped in Cranbrook Sunday evening (Dec. 14), where Canadian rock band Barenaked Ladies performed outside the railway building while guests brought non-perishable food items for the local Food Bank.
In an email to Rewind Radio News, the Cranbrook Food Bank reports that the tour yielded 1,870 pounds of food donations, along with nearly $2,425 from the community and $10,000 in cash from CPKC.
“It was a very successful event!” said Julie Rose, executive director with the Food Bank. “The generosity of this community continually blows us away!”
Cranbrook was the final stop of the annual event that day – it rolled into Sparwood, Fernie and Jaffray earlier in the afternoon.
