Concerns about road access in the Wildstone neighbourhood were a key topic at Monday (Nov. 8) night’s council meeting.
Mayor Wayne Price said council “heard the concerns from the residents at Wildstone about road access loud and clear” and has directed staff to begin planning a second road connection to Wildstone Drive.
Additional access roads have been part of the Official Community Plan (OCP) and the Wildstone Neighbourhood Plan since the development began.
However, the city says changes in land ownership and development plans have affected the original vision for the area.
There is no set timeline for building a second road, as it depends on future development.
The city says there are several ways to secure land for new roads, most commonly through the subdivision approval process.
Other options include buying land, negotiating for right-of-way, expropriating property, or using new authority tied to building permits.
Any purchase or expropriation would require taxpayer funding.
Future access roads are identified in the city’s OCP Road Network.
Under existing bylaws and provincial legislation, the approving officer can require developers to dedicate and build roads as new development occurs.
