Columbia River–Revelstoke MLA Scott McInnis has issued a public statement following the resignation of conservative party leader John Rustad.
Rustad stepped down Wednesday (Dec. 3), prompting the Conservative Party of BC to begin preparing for a formal leadership race.
In his statement, McInnis expressed gratitude for Rustad’s leadership and support, noting that Rustad played a key role in recruiting him as a candidate in September 2024.
“John placed great faith in me, and I will always be thankful to him for bringing me on board,” McInnis said.
McInnis acknowledged the challenges of the past few days but emphasized that the caucus is now focused on its primary goal.
“Our caucus is fully focused on holding the NDP government to account. This is the mandate British Columbians elected us to fulfill,” he stated.
With the B.C. Legislature not set to meet until February, McInnis says he plans to spend the coming months reconnecting with constituents across his riding after spending much of the summer away.
He highlighted constituency work as the most valued part of his role and pledged to remain accessible throughout the winter.
McInnis also reiterated his appreciation for Rustad’s leadership since the 2024 provincial election, noting his efforts to offer British Columbians “a strong alternative vision to the NDP.”
Looking ahead, McInnis said he remains committed to representing Columbia River–Revelstoke “to the very best of my ability” as the party undergoes changes.
