A wellness check in Sparwood early Saturday (Nov. 15) led to a large police presence and an hours-long lockdown.
According to RCMP, officers were called to a home in Sparwood around 2:45 a.m. after a report that a man with a firearm was threatening self-harm.
Officers say a single gunshot was heard as they arrived at the residence.
Additional units, including Southeast District resources, BC Ambulance, and Sparwood Fire, were brought in.
Nearby residents were told to take shelter or were escorted out while officers secured the area.
Emergency Response Teams eventually entered the home and arrested the man under the B.C. Mental Health Act.
RCMP say no one was injured, and the man was taken to hospital for care.
Several firearms and ammunition were seized, including a rifle with a spent round in the chamber.
Officers say there is no ongoing risk to the public, and the investigation remains active.
