RCMP and search crews have joined an ongoing search for a missing five-year-old boy last seen near Island Lake Campground, four kilometres south of Crowsnest Pass.
RCMP say Darius Macdougall was reported missing around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, while walking with family members in the area.
The child has a medical condition that may prevent him from responding to others, RCMP said in a statement.
Search efforts continued through Sunday night and into Monday, involving RCMP, Search and Rescue teams from Alberta and British Columbia, conservation officers, and specialized crews equipped to work in low-light conditions.
Drones, search dogs and helicopters are also being used.
RCMP said the child’s medical condition and possible inability to communicate are causes for concern.
The number of people involved in the search has not been confirmed.
Macdougall is described as approximately four feet tall, with short brown hair.
He was reportedly last seen wearing a blue and grey hoodie and sweatpants.
