The next few days may be hazy for some Kimberley residents after crews started a prescribed burn in the Forest Crowne Estates West area Thursday (Sep. 18).
Burning will cover up to 12 hectares of land between St. Mary’s Lake Road and the Forest Crowne Estates Development.
“Fire is a normal and natural process in many of B.C.’s ecosystems,” wrote the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).
“The BC Wildfire Service works regularly with land managers to undertake fuel management activities (including the use of prescribed burns), to help achieve land management objectives, reduce the severity of future wildfires and increase ecosystem and wildfire resilience.”

Smoke may also be visible for several days in low-lying areas throughout the City and in surrounding communities, as well as to drivers travelling along Highway 95A.
More information is available through the BCWS website.
