Update: According to the City of Fernie, the water quality advisory issued Sept. 7, is no longer in place.
Original story….
A water quality advisory has been issued for the City of Fernie after a reported issue in the system that controls reservoir levels.
As a result, the backup water source at Fairy Creek was used during a time when the water was not as clear as usual.
On Sunday (Sep 7), the city reported a “fair” water rating following the malfunction.
While the health risk is considered low, Interior Health and the City of Fernie recommend that young children, the elderly, people with weakened immune systems, and anyone seeking additional protection boil their water before using it for consumption.
Water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute.
The city says steps are being taken to reduce risk, and public places have been asked to post notices and offer safe alternatives where possible.
Residents will be notified when water quality improves.
More information is available at fernie.ca or by contacting the city directly.
