Mounties in the Elk Valley say a California man was ticketed and had his vehicle impounded after being caught speeding at 145 kilometres per hour in a 100 km/h zone.
Elk Valley RCMP say the incident happened on Wednesday (Aug. 27) in the early afternoon while an officer was conducting routine patrols along Highway 3 near Rock Lake Road.
The officer recorded the top speed of the blue Tesla Cybertruck at 151 km/h before locking the radar at 145 km/h.
The driver produced a valid California licence and was issued a $368 fine under B.C.’s excessive speed legislation.
The vehicle was impounded, and RCMP say the man was transported to a safe location and left on his own.
Elk Valley RCMP say incidents like this happen almost daily and expressed frustration with what he called a “general disregard for public safety,” noting that heavy traffic was present at the time of this offence.
He said posted speed limits reflect ideal conditions and are not intended as a starting point.
