A local animal shelter is celebrating a key milestone this month– more than 45 pets have found their forever homes through Meant 2B Loved (M2BL) so far this year.
Rewind Radio spoke with Darryl Dux, an M2BL board member, about the achievement.
Roughly 50 animals from Cranbrook and Kimberley have been taken in, with 25 courtesy posts made in the first five months of 2025 alone to help existing owners rehome their pets.
It’s a big part of why the shelter chooses to dedicate its local funding right back to local animals.
“We can’t even keep up with the need in our community as it is, even though we work in collaboration with other regional rescues. The need is still overwhelming and far beyond our current capacity.”
Dux added that changes in family living situations, housing, and veterinary costs are some of the most common reasons people surrender their pets.
Anyone looking to support M2BL’s work can make a donation, foster or volunteer.
