The Cities of Cranbrook and Kimberley are working together to keep users safe on a section of their shared 28-kilometre trail.
Starting Wednesday (Aug. 6), the Northstar Rails to Trails will be closed for key slope safety work on a roughly 250-metre stretch next to Wycliffe Store Road, just past the St. Mary’s River Bed and Breakfast.
“We ask everyone to follow detour signs and stay out of the closed area,” wrote the City in a release. “The work zone will not be safe during construction.”
Crews will be removing loose rocks from the slope above the paved trail to help prevent future rockfalls.
A signed detour will be in place towards Wycliffe Store Road to minimize disruption for both commuters and recreational users.
The project is expected to take two to three weeks to complete.
