Stargazers in the region may want to look up in the coming weeks as the annual Perseid meteor shower reaches its peak.
According to timeanddate.com, the meteor shower is expected to peak overnight in the region between August 12 and 13, with up to 100 meteors per hour under ideal conditions.
However, researchers say a full moon on August 9 may wash out some of the display at peak time.
Fortunately, the meteor shower runs from July 17 to August 24, giving stargazers multiple chances to catch the show.
A better viewing time may be August 16 and 17, when the moon is less bright and skies are darker.
The meteors come from debris left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle, and appear to radiate from the Perseus constellation in the northeast sky.
But they can appear across any part of the sky, so a wide view is considered best.
For best results, experts say to head away from city lights, allow your eyes 15–20 minutes to adjust to the dark, and bring a blanket or chair for comfort.
