The planning process to update the Rockyview Official Community Plan (OCP) is restarting after a temporary pause.
The OCP is a long-term planning document that outlines land use, development, and community priorities for the area.
Led by the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK), the process began in early 2023 but was paused due to staffing changes.
With a new planner now in place, the project is resuming with a new focus on community engagement.
The revised plan will update the existing Rockyview OCP and merge it with the Moyie & Area OCP.
“We have a new planner on staff and are excited to dive back into the planning process,” said Area C Director Rob Gay.
“We are hoping to see strong involvement so that we can build on what we learned early-on in the process.”
In the coming weeks, a series of engagement opportunities will be scheduled, including open houses and meetings with residents, First Nations, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
Conversations with residents are expected to begin in late August and continue through the fall.
A draft version of the updated OCP is anticipated in early 2026.
It will be reviewed by the RDEK Board of Directors and shared with the public for feedback before moving into the formal adoption process.
