UPDATE: The wildfire has been classified as under control as of 8:15 p.m. Wednesday.
The Regional District of East Kootenay shared in a post last night that emergency officials are speaking with residents of the one evacuated property, and they will soon be able to return home if they have not already.
The original story follows:
Firefighters are now responding to an out-of-control wildfire that has reached a property in the Mission Wycliffe Road area between Cranbrook and Kimberley.
BC Wildfire first discovered wildfire N10814 on Wednesday afternoon (Jul. 2) and sent two initial attack crews to the site. The RCMP are conducting a tactical evacuation for one property in the 3000 block area of Mission Wycliffe Road, following the fire’s spread to the building.
Emergency Support Services is also on scene to help affected evacuees.
Residents are now being asked to avoid the Mission Wycliffe Road area north of the intersection of Highway 95A and the junction of Wycliffe Mission Road, by the Kings Chapel Pentecostal Church.
The fire sits at under 0.01 hectares and is suspected to be human-caused at the time of writing.
More information will be added as it becomes available.
