The Province of British Columbia is investing $400,000 through the Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) Trail Fund to support 20 projects aimed at building and maintaining trails and promoting safe use of off-road vehicles.
In the Kootenays, the Kootenay Rockies ATV Club received $25,000 to carry out brushing and maintenance on more than 22 kilometres of trail northeast of Cranbrook.
The work focuses on four trail sections forming a loop that connects the St. Mary River Valley, Angus Creek, and Hell Roaring Forestry Service Road.
Kootenay Rockies ATV Trail Committee, Bernie Ogonoski, says, “These trail sections connect to a larger trail network in the area, thus providing some great riding over a vast scenic area just outside of Cranbrook.”
The Blue Mountain Motorcycle Club in Maple Ridge received nearly $25,000 to upgrade two trails in the Blue Mountain riding area, focusing on erosion control, drainage, water crossings, and trail tread hardening.
The Kelowna Snowmobile Club was granted $25,000 to improve safety and signage on the Graystokes and McCulloch trail systems, including the installation of kiosks, trail markers, and hazard warnings.
Established in 2017, the ORV Trail Fund is a user-funded program administered by Recreation Sites and Trails BC in partnership with the BC Power Sports Coalition.
Since its creation, the fund has supported more than 160 projects across the province, with total funding exceeding $2 million.
