The Sparwood Chamber of Commerce has now released the results of its latest member survey, following a check-in with 101 local businesses in September last year.
“The 2024 Sparwood Business Walk was a clear reminder of the strength, resilience, and innovation of our local business community,” wrote the Chamber. “[W]e’ve gained valuable insight into what’s working, what’s challenging, and—most importantly—how we can grow together.”
Reports indicate that roughly 80 percent of respondents stated that their business is strong, steady, or in good condition; however, more than a third have been experiencing difficulties in finding employees.
“Businesses in particular noted a shortage of available and affordable housing, making it difficult to recruit and retain employees. Lack of childcare options was a widespread concern, with approximately 50% of businesses identifying daycare as a key barrier,” the Chamber added. “Some surveyed locations expressed some concern over employee retention based on competitive wage restrictions for their businesses.”

Moving forward, the business community has offered ideas such as increasing space for expansion, reducing regulatory barriers and improving affordable housing options. Sparwood Chamber of Commerce will be reaching out to business owners with follow-up questions at a later date.
