Although details are limited, WestJet has gone public over what it believes was a potential cybersecurity incident that may have affected its employees and customers.
“(We are) aware of a cybersecurity incident involving internal systems and the WestJet app, which has restricted access for several users. We have activated specialized internal teams in cooperation with law enforcement and Transport Canada to investigate the matter and limit impacts,” said the airline on its website Friday.
“We are expediting efforts to maintain the safety of our operation and safeguard sensitive data and personal information for both our guests and employees, and we apologize to all guests for any disruption to their access to WestJet’s services.”
While no specifics were shared in the posting, the company has said it’s committed to providing more information as it becomes available.
WestJet has daily service to Calgary from Cranbrook’s Canadian Rockies International Airport.
