Testing for urinary health may be daunting, but patients in the Elk Valley can rest a little easier thanks to a new community donation.
The Elk Valley Hospital has now received a $10k donation from the Fernie Royal Canadian Legion’s annual poppy campaign.
“We are grateful to the residents of the Elk Valley for their support of the Poppy Campaign,” said Legion President Jennifer Cronin. “It is through their generous donations that we are able to give back to our community and support the Elk Valley Hospital in the purchase of much needed equipment.”
Proceeds will help the hospital purchase a new bladder scanner —a tool that utilizes ultrasound technology to measure bladder volume, aid in diagnosing urinary retention, post-operative difficulties, and other bladder-related issues. It’s a less invasive process than using a catheter.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Fernie Legion for their generous donation from their Poppy Campaign in support of the new bladder scanner for the Elk Valley Hospital,” said Brenna Hong, executive director of the East Kootenay Foundation for Health. “[T]his gift is a true reflection of their compassion and dedication to the Elk Valley, and we are honoured to partner with them.”
The Fernie Legion’s poppy fund runs in October and November to support veterans and their families, as well as bursaries, medical costs and other community causes. More information is available online through the Legion website.
