The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) says the new Radium Transfer Station will open to the public on July 2, 2025.
In addition to regular household waste collection, the facility will offer expanded recycling services for Radium and Area G residents.
“This new transfer station will provide a convenient option for residents to dispose of waste and access a wide range of new recycling opportunities,” said Kevin Paterson, RDEK’s General Manager of Engineering and Environmental Services.
The site will include a Household Hazardous Waste Depot, and recycling options for used oil, electronics, appliances, propane tanks, batteries, green waste, metals, and wood waste.
It will also feature the Recycle BC program, which accepts paper, cardboard, glass, flexible plastics, and both white and coloured Styrofoam.
Paterson noted that while yellow recycling bins across the region will remain in place, residents are encouraged to use the new Recycle BC options at the facility.
“Recycle BC saves taxpayers money, as we are paid for the materials collected through the program, while we pay for every tonne collected through the Yellow Bin Program,” he said.
The transfer station will operate daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
