A driver with a history of motor vehicle offences is without his truck for a week after Cranbrook RCMP witnessed him street racing on a busy road Monday night.
RCMP say a Ford F-350 and a Toyota Supra were seen initiating a drag race around 9 p.m. on May 26 along Cranbrook Street North.
According to police, the truck accelerated to roughly 100 km/h in a 60 km/h zone before being pulled over by an officer on patrol.
The truck was stopped by Cst. Coverdale after police activated lights and sirens.
The driver was issued a ticket and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
“This dangerous driving behaviour is reckless and puts everyone at risk,” said Staff Sgt. Barry Graham, Cranbrook RCMP Detachment Commander, in a statement.
“As the weather warms up, we tend to see an increase in unsafe driving behaviour.”
Graham said officers will be watching closely for speeders, impaired drivers and those who fail to obey traffic signals or stop signs.
So far in 2025, Cranbrook RCMP have issued 36 traffic tickets, 11 warnings and impounded 55 vehicles under the Immediate Roadside Prohibition program.
