RCMP cracked down on dangerous drivers in the Elk Valley this past Victoria Day long weekend.
BC Highway Patrol officers boosted targeted enforcement from impaired driving roadblocks in the South Country to laser speed operations between Fernie and the B.C.-Alberta border.
Four impaired drivers have been removed from the roads, and four cars were seized for a week due to excessive speeding. The top recorded speed was 175km/h.
A total of 29 speeding tickets have also been issued.
“We thank BC Highway Patrol for their assistance and remind all motorists to drive sober, obey speed limits, and keep safety top of mind—especially during long weekends,” wrote Elk Valley RCMP in a social media post. “Keeping our roads safe is a shared responsibility. Let’s all do our part.”
