Crews are keeping up their work flushing out all the gunk from the City of Cranbrook’s water main today (May 15).
The annual unidirectional water flushing operations have now moved up to the South Hill area along 14th Avenue South between 14th Street and 17th Street.
“Through a series of planned valve openings and closures, our crew is able to move water in a single direction at high velocities,” wrote the City. “This high velocity scouring of the water main removes sediment, scale and biofilm which greatly improves water quality and lowers chlorine demand.”
Flushing also helps reduce corrosion and find weak sections in the pipe system.
If you notice cloudy water shortly after the flushing, the City says not to worry– just run your cold-water tap until it turns clear.
Operations are generally set to run until the end of June each year. Any questions can be directed to Public Works at 250-489-0218.
