Incumbent Conservative Rob Morrison has released a statement after unofficially being re-elected.
Morrison said he is, ” honoured and humbled by the trust the people of Columbia-Kootenay-Southern Rockies have placed in me. Canadians are looking for common-sense leadership that puts the cost of living, economic growth, and community safety first—and that’s exactly what I will fight for every day in Parliament.”
In the statement, Morrison said he ran on a platform focused on “affordability, job creation, lowering taxes and government responsibility,” and thanked both voters and volunteers who believed in him and his policies.
Reggie Goldsbury with the Liberal Party came in second at more than 25 per cent of votes.
He issued a statement just before midnight congratulating the incumbent, while acknowledging that Liberal support in the riding tripled this year, compared to the 2021 election.
Federally, a Liberal government has been confirmed with Liberal Leader Mark Carney to serve as Prime Minister elect, however, Canadians have to wait and see if that will be a minority or majority government.
