The East Kootenay FireSmart Program is hosting its second annual “Ember Stomp” wildfire preparedness event on Apr. 25.
The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Jaffray Community Hall (7369 Jaffray Village Loop Road).
There will be a host of service providers in attendance and a concession lunch will be available on behalf of the Jaffray Community Club and Sand Creek Lions Club.
“We are inviting all residents to take part in Ember Stomp this year and learn what they can do to help themselves, their neighbours, and their communities be prepared in case of wildfire,” says RDEK Wildfire Resiliency Supervisor Terry Balan. “The day is going to be filled with activities, including a live fire demonstration from our Elk Valley and South Country Rural Fire and Rescue Service, and educational presentations. Bring the kids to check out the wildland firefighting apparatus, play games, meet Ember the FireSmart Fox, and learn more about wildfire preparedness.”
The Ember Stop will take place ahead of Wildfire Preparedness Day, held on the first Saturday in May.
