Weather permitting, the Kimberley Fire Department, in collaboration with the Cranbrook Fire Zone, is conducting a prescribed burn on 20 hectares of City-owned land in the
Levirs Avenue/Nature Park area.
The city says the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to reduce wildfire hazards along the west flank of the community.
Officials say the burn is targeting cured grass, branches, twigs, and litter from shrubs. Residents should expect smoke to be present during the day and overnight for several nights depending on weather conditions.
Crews will be on-site for several days to extinguish burning material and limit smoke impacts.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email fire@kimberley.ca.
The city thanks residents for their cooperation and understanding as they work to enhance the safety of the community.
