It might be the middle of October, but there’s still a big threat for wildfires.
Case in point – two which broke out over the long weekend.
The first was discovered on Friday in the Reinecker Creek area south of Nakusp – listed as out of control at three hectares in size.
The second wildfire, northeast of Cranbrook, in the Burntbridge Creek area was first noticed on Sunday.
It was considered out-of-control earlier in the weekend but is now listed as ‘being held.’
It’s a little over two hectares and burning in a fairly remote area east of the Wardner-Fort Steele Road.
As of Monday evening, there were 31 fires burning in the Southeast Fire Centre; 129 province-wide.
