With many of us heading out on vacation or just out to the backcountry in the coming days, the provincial government is reminding us to be aware of just where there’s wildfire activity; that includes knowing about highway closures.
While here in the Southeast we haven’t been greatly impacted, there’s always a chance with the prolonged dry conditions.
The recommendation is to always check DriveBC before going out the door.
As of 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, the only road closure in the Columbia-Kootenay region was Highway 6 south of Silverton, due to the Aylwin and Komonko Creek fires.
A Travel Advisory was in place for Highway 1 from Kamloops to just east of Field.
The same held true for Highway 5 from Kamloops to Tete Juane, but both advisories were because of the large-scale evacuation of Jasper and the surrounding national park.
Both advisories could be lifted, at some point, today.
