An initial attack crew from the BC Wildfire Service was called out Thursday night to an incident in the Fort Steele area.
The blaze between the Kootenay River and Wardner-Fort Steele Road was discovered late yesterday afternoon, just before 6pm.
At last check, it was a little over two hectares in size, burning in the Wild Horse River area.
Wind in the area last night, likely, helped in its spread.
At this point, there’s no word if any homes or properties might be in the path of the wildfire.
Early indications, though, are that it was human-caused.
Depending on wind direction, there might be smoke that makes it way into Cranbrook and the city’s surroundings.
Fire Danger Ratings, which the province puts out, are hovering at around 2 out of 5 for most of the area’s monitoring stations.
It goes up to 3 this weekend with temperatures spiking in the mid to upper 20’s.
