For the second time this week, the District of Elkford received some good news on the housing front.
It’s been approved for 25 new affordable rental homes for seniors and those living with disabilities.
BC housing minister Ravi Kahlon said yesterday that it will allow the new residents to live close to friends and family.
His federal counterpart, Sean Fraser, added it will mean those with disabilities can live in the community they call home.
The four-storey building will have 25 one-bedroom units and will use solar panel technology to help produce additional power.
The project at 214 Alpine Way is a partnership between the Province, federal government, Regional District of East Kootenay, District of Elkford, Columbia Basin Trust, Teck Coal, and the Elkford Housing Society.
On Monday, the BC government announced funding for another new development in Elkford that could see up to 100 units on a property at 421 Boivin Road.
